Trent may not have been a medical doctor but he could have had a PhD or an honorary PhD from somewhere which would make him a Doctor of ? so it's still possible she's Max's sister. 

We all know age and time don't travel at the same speed in Salem so if Carly had an affair with Trent soon after she left Salem with Lawrence it is possible that Melanie is her daughter since she's all of what, 19.  As long as she's not Bo's or older than Will I guess I'm OK with that one.  I mean she's younger than Chelsea and Billie had her after Hope returned to Salem long after Carly was out of the picture.

i'm so not liking this! and the father IS a doctor. I don't think Trent was a doctor, so - since Max IS Trent's son - that'll make him and Melanie NOT siblings. Ugh! How is it possible that Melanie could even be Carly's daughter? I mean, supposedly, she had the baby with the doctor during her adultery to her husband, and we all know that she and bo were an item back in the 90's for a short period of time...the time span she and her husband were together -- and melanie's age (i'm assuming she's a full-pledged adult), wouldn't add up! heck, if that's the case, melanie should be right in the same age bracket as mia and will! but she's not, so....

When you say an old colleague, I think of a doctor, so who could it be?  My first thought was of Chloe's dad before he and Nancy got back together. 
Who ever the father is, I hope it does not mess up another family and tear it apart, especially after all this time.
Another thing, why did it take so many years for Carly to grow a backbone??

I read on another site that it is     Melanie...and Carly had an affair with an old colleauge.Now most are speculating that it is Daniel...
I'm thinking Trent? That would explain why he was raising her.....It would be  crazy if he also was Mia's dad,with Nicole...and gave her up because Nicole was a drugy at the time and doesn't remember.....
